# Creating a Field Event

> Create a field event in Conversion, choose its type, and fill in or sync the event's details.

## Create a field event

**Prerequisites:** You have permission to create field events in the workspace.

1. Click **Field Events** in the sidebar, then click **New**. You can also create a field event inside a [folder](/product-docs/folders/overview).
2. Enter a **name**. This is the name you see in Conversion, separate from the title the event has on your platform.
3. Choose a **field event type**. Every workspace starts with **Conference**, **Tradeshow**, and **Dinner / Roundtable**. See [Field event types](#field-event-types).
4. Click **Create**.

Conversion opens the new field event on its **Overview** tab.

## Field event types

The type decides which statuses the event's members move through. Unlike webinars, these are yours to edit in [Campaign Types](/product-docs/campaigns/settings/types).

| Default type            | Statuses                                                                                   |
| ----------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| **Conference**          | Invited → Waitlisted → Registered → Attended → No Show                                     |
| **Tradeshow**           | Invited → Waitlisted → Registered → Attended → No Show → Visited Booth → Engaged Post Show |
| **Dinner / Roundtable** | Invited → Waitlisted → Registered → Attended → No Show                                     |

Each default type already tells Conversion which of its statuses mean registered, waitlisted, attended, and no-show. If you create your own type, map those four meanings before connecting an event to a platform. See [Status meanings](/product-docs/campaigns/field-events/members#status-meanings).

## Connect it to your event platform

If the event lives on Cvent, Luma, or Splash, connect it now. Conversion fills in the title, dates, venue, and the rest of the event details from the platform and keeps them current. Connecting is also what brings registrations and check-ins in.

Go to the **Overview** tab and click **Connect** on the event platform card. See [Platform Sync](/product-docs/campaigns/field-events/platform-sync/overview) for the full walkthrough.

<Tip>
  You don't need to fill in the event details before connecting. Whatever you enter is replaced by the platform's values, so create the event and connect it right away.
</Tip>

## Enter the event details yourself

If the event isn't on a connected platform, enter the details by hand on the **Overview** tab.

| Field                                                                                                   | Notes                                                                                                  |

| **Start Time**, **End Time** | When the event begins and ends. The end time is what the no-show sweep counts from. |
| **Time Zone** | The time zone the times are expressed in. |
| **Event Format**                                                                                        | In-person, virtual, or hybrid.                                                                         |
| **Event Status** | Where the event is in its lifecycle, from upcoming through ended or cancelled. |
| **Registration State** | Open, closed, pending, or not required. |
| **Approval Type**                                                                                       | Whether registrations need a host's approval.                                                          |
| **Registration URL** | The public registration link. |
| **Venue Name**, **Address**, **City**, **State/Region**, **Country**, **Country Code**, **Postal Code** | Where the event takes place. |
| **Organizer Name**, **Organizer Email** | Who is running it. |
| **Capacity**, **Spots Remaining** | The room size and how much of it is left. |

These are the **provider-owned** details. A connected platform writes every one of them, so on a connected event they are locked and a change you make would be rejected. Change the event on the platform instead, then click **Re-sync**.

Five fields are always yours to edit, connected or not: **Description**, **Start Date**, **End Date**, **Campaign Status**, and **Active**. They are the fields that map to a Salesforce campaign.

<Info>
  Event details aren't available in Liquid yet. To use the venue or date in an email, set them as [campaign tokens](/product-docs/campaigns/tokens) on the field event and reference those.
</Info>

## Organize and manage

The menu in the top right of a field event lets you:

* **Add to folder** or **Move**, to place the event in your [folder hierarchy](/product-docs/folders/overview).
* **Rename**. The name is Conversion's own, so renaming stays available on a connected event.
* **Archive**, to retire an event you're done with. Archived events are hidden from the list by default and stop syncing with their platform. Their members and Salesforce link are kept.
* **Delete**.

A field event holds its own emails, forms, workflows, and files, and its own token values. See [Assets](/product-docs/campaigns/assets) and [Tokens](/product-docs/campaigns/tokens).

## Delete a field event

1. Open the event and select **Delete** from the menu in the top right.
2. If the dialog says the event still has assets, move or delete them first. A field event can't be deleted while it holds assets.
3. Confirm.

<Warning>
  Deleting a field event can't be undone, and its members and their statuses go with it. The event on your platform and the linked Salesforce campaign are not affected. If you only want it out of the way, archive it instead.
</Warning>
