# Email Themes

> Set your brand's email look once. Every email you build picks it up automatically.

An email theme is your brand's look for email: colors, fonts, and buttons, all defined in one place. Every email you build starts from your theme, so you never have to restyle things block by block, and everyone on your team produces emails that look the same. Spacing isn't part of a theme — it's layout, set directly on each email's blocks. New blocks start with sensible padding you can adjust.

Your workspace has a **default theme**, and new emails and templates use it automatically. The first draft of any email already looks like your brand.

## Where to find themes

Go to **Settings → Themes**. Each theme shows as a card with a preview of its current look. Open a card to edit the theme, or use its menu to duplicate it, rename it, set it as the default, or archive it.

## Editing a theme

The theme editor shows your controls next to a live sample, so you see every change as you make it. You can shape:

| What | Examples |
| --------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Page & background** | The color behind your email, the email's background, and corner rounding. |
| **Text & headings** | Fonts, sizes, and colors for body text and each heading size. |
| **Buttons** | Button color, label color, rounding, and padding inside the button. |
| **Images, dividers & logo** | Rounding, borders, and sizing. |
| **Footer** | Social icon style and the look of your unsubscribe link. |

Switch to the **Preview** tab any time to see a full sample email in your theme.

### Section palettes

Want a dark call-to-action band or a highlighted offer section? Add a named palette to your theme, like "Dark CTA". In the email builder, assign it to any section and everything inside switches together: text, links, buttons, and dividers all flip to the palette's colors. No recoloring block by block.

## Publishing changes

Your edits save automatically as a **draft**, and nothing you do in the editor changes any email while you work. When you're happy with the look, click **Publish**.

Each publish is saved as a version. From the version history you can look back at earlier versions, bring one back into your draft, or discard unpublished changes and return to the current published look.

## Your emails won't change unexpectedly

Themes are built so an update never surprises you:

* **Publishing doesn't touch existing emails.** Everything you've already built or sent keeps looking exactly as you designed it.
* **You choose when an email updates.** When a newer version of its theme is available, the email builder offers the update. Take it and the email restyles in one click.
* **Your one-off tweaks are safe.** Any styling you set on a specific block always wins over the theme, and it stays put through theme switches and updates.

See [Theme & settings in the builder](/product-docs/emails/email-builder/theme) for how this looks while editing an email.

## Default and archived themes

* **Set as default** decides which theme new emails and templates start from. A theme needs to be published at least once before emails can use it.
* **Archive** retires a theme you're done with. Emails already using it keep looking the same, it just can't be picked for new emails. You can unarchive it any time. The default theme can't be archived.

## Ask Conversion AI

You can ask Conversion AI to build or restyle a theme for you: "make our theme match our website", "add a dark CTA section palette", or "switch our emails to a serif font". Its changes go to the theme's draft through the normal [review flow](/product-docs/conversion-ai/editing), with a preview of the proposed look before you approve. Publishing is always up to you.

<Tip>
Edit the theme when a change should reach every email that uses it. For a one-off look on a single email, style that email's blocks directly instead.
