# Scoring Overview

> Rank contacts by who they are and how they engage, with fit, engagement, and total scores.

Scores rank your contacts so you can prioritize the ones most likely to buy. Each score looks at two things:

* **Fit**: who the contact is, based on their fields, audiences, company, and opportunities.
* **Engagement**: what the contact does, like submitting forms, visiting pages, and opening emails.

A contact's **total** is their fit score plus their engagement score.

You can create as many scores as you need, for example one per product or region. Each score calculates independently.

## Tiers

Fit and engagement each place contacts into three tiers:

| Dimension      | Tiers (highest to lowest) |
| -------------- | ------------------------- |
| **Fit**        | A, B, C                   |
| **Engagement** | 1, 2, 3                   |

Tiers are often shown together, so a contact that fits well and engages a lot is an **A1**. You choose where each tier starts in [settings](/product-docs/scoring/settings).

## How scoring runs

Scores update automatically every few minutes. Each run uses current contact data, so points from older activity can fade or expire over time without any new activity.

* Contacts that haven't been scored yet show no score until the next run.
* Changes you make to rules apply after you [publish](/product-docs/scoring/publishing), and recalculate every contact against their full history, not just new activity.
* A score of 0 means the contact has no net points. It doesn't mean they weren't scored.

## Scores list

Go to **Scoring** to see every score in your workspace. Click **New score** to create one, or switch to **Archived** to see archived scores.

## Score pages

Open a score to see four tabs:

| Tab          | Description                                                                                        |
| ------------ | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Overview** | Score health, tier distribution, score distribution, fit × engagement breakdown, and top contacts. |
| **Results**  | Every scored contact with their fit, engagement, total, tiers, and 30-day trend.                   |
| **Rules**    | The [fit and engagement rules](/product-docs/scoring/rules) that award points.                     |
| **Settings** | Which contacts to score, [ranges and tiers, and output fields](/product-docs/scoring/settings).    |

The status in the top right shows whether the score is **Active**, **Paused**, **Draft**, or **Archived**, and when it last ran.

  Hover a contact's total in **Results** to see which rules contributed their points.
