# Creating an Iterable API key

> Create an Iterable API key and confirm your project's data center so Conversion can connect to your Iterable project.

To connect your Iterable project to Conversion, we need one API key from Iterable and confirmation of which data center your project runs in. This guide walks through creating the key. It takes about 5 minutes and requires Iterable org admin access.

## Before you start: confirm access and scope

You need to be signed in to Iterable as an org admin, or as a member with the **Manage Integrations** project permission.

## Step 1: Confirm your data center

Every Iterable project is tied to a data center, and that determines which API base URL we point at. Tell us which one applies to you:

* **US (USDC) projects:** `https://api.iterable.com`
* **EU (EDC) projects:** `https://api.eu.iterable.com`

## Step 2: Create the API key

1. In Iterable, go to **Integrations > API Keys**.
2. Click **New API Key** in the top right corner.
3. Fill in the key details:
   * **Name:** Iterable MCP for Conversion
   * **Type:** Server-side
4. Click **Create**.

## Step 3: Copy your credentials

1. In the **Copy Your New API Key** window, copy the API key.
2. Store it somewhere secure right away. Iterable will not show the key again once you close that window.
3. Share the key and your data center (US or EU) securely with your Conversion team.
