The right to opt out
Several privacy regimes give data subjects the right to opt out of the sharing or sale of their personal information. The California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the CPRA, is the most common example, and comparable rights exist under other state and international laws. A do-not-share/sell request is separate from a deletion request. The contact remains in your workspace, but their personal information must not be shared with, or sold to, third parties for advertising or other qualifying purposes.Honoring a request in Conversion
Conversion honors do-not-share/sell requests by recording the request against the contact and using that record to exclude the contact from downstream data sharing. The request is stored in a contact field. You can set the field:- Manually on the contact record.
- In bulk with an Update Field node in a workflow, for example off the back of a form submission or an API call from your preference center.
- Through the API by updating the field on the contact.
Filtering opted-out contacts from ad audiences
Ad audiences with a bidirectional membership sync push contacts to the connected ad platform and pull membership changes back. To honor a do-not-share/sell request, the opted-out contact must be excluded from every ad audience that syncs to a third-party ad platform. Use the do-not-share/sell field as a filter criterion on any dynamic audience that is linked to an ads audience:- Open the audience and edit its filter criteria.
- Add a condition that excludes contacts where the do-not-share/sell field is set.
- Save the audience.
Static audiences do not re-evaluate membership against filter criteria. If you use static audiences with a linked ads audience, remove opted-out contacts from the static audience directly.
