Wistia connects with an API token from your Wistia account. Once connected, everything in Webinar Platform Sync applies; this page covers the connection and where Wistia behaves differently.

Connect Wistia

Prerequisites: You are a workspace Administrator, your Wistia account includes webinars, and you have an API token from your Wistia account. Only the Wistia Account Owner can create API tokens. Ask them to create one for Conversion:
  1. In Wistia, open Account Settings and go to the API tab.
  2. Click New token, give it a name such as Conversion, and grant it Read all data and Read, update & delete anything. Conversion needs the second permission to register your contacts on the webinar.
  3. Copy the token right away. Wistia shows it only once, and it can’t be copied again after you leave the page.
Then connect it in Conversion:
  1. Open workspace Settings and go to the Integrations tab.
  2. Find Wistia and click Connect.
  3. Enter your API token and click Connect.
Conversion validates the token against Wistia before saving it. If the connection fails, check that the token was copied in full, that it has both permissions above, and that your Wistia plan includes webinars. Use Update connection to rotate the token, or Disconnect to remove the integration.
Wistia requires a first name and a last name to register someone. Contacts missing either can’t be registered from Conversion and are set to Registration Error.

Registration

Wistia confirms registrations from Conversion immediately, join link included. Registrations made on the Wistia event page are imported by a daily sync rather than in real time, because Wistia doesn’t notify Conversion when someone registers there.

Attendance

Conversion checks Wistia on a schedule rather than being notified when a session ends, so allow up to an hour after the session ends before attendance appears. Wistia reports when each attendee joined and how long they watched, but not when they left.
